First Fly Tying Contest

The model for our banner, Ed Hinton, won the July Open Division Tying Contest with his female Adams. He will be the Fly Master for the August meeting. Ed has decided that the open division will be Dave's Hopper and the Novice Division will tie the Griffith Gnat. All you have to do is pick the Division you want to be in and then tie your best fly and bring it to the August meeting.

GCF MAKES DONATION TO REEL RECOVERY

Ken Richards of Just Fishin' Guides donated a day of guided fishing to GCF at the March Meeting as part of his presentation on smallmouth bass fishing and Reel Recovery for men with Cancer. At Shawn Childress' suggestion the club voted to auction the trip at the annual club picnic and to donate the winning bid to Reel Recovery. Gary and Riley made the winning bid of $300 and that has been donated to Reel Recovery.

Gary Kilpatrick and I did get to have our guided fishing trip with the Just Fishin Guides in June.  It was a great trip floating down the Kings River just East of Eureka Springs Arkansas.  We will be giving a full report at the August meeting.

Outings

Jul 24 Lower Illinois,

Shawn Prufer and others will be driving down to the area below the Lake Tenkiller dam on Saturday morning.  They will fish until the middle of the afternoon.  Fishing is good below the dam and downriver at the gravel pits and the water management area near Watts.  The gravel pits are about 6 miles down river from the dam.  The gates above the river are normally open from 1:00PM to 7:30PM for power generation durning the week in the peak season for power use.  The most recent data indicated that on Saturday and Sunday they only opened 1 gate from 4:00PM to 5:30PM.  Fishing when the gates are open is not advisable.  The water in the river will rise about 5 feet.  The fishing seems to be very good early in the morning and after the river level goes down in the evening .  There are at least two state parks in the area for campers.  Tenkiller State Park is across the dam on highway 82 and Greenleaf Stae park is three miles south of Braggs on State Highway 10.  There is also a camping area at the Gore Landing just north of highway 64 east of Gore.   The web site for the area is http://www.tenkiller.net.  Fishing reports for the river can be found at http://ozarkanglers.com/forums
